The first phase of a large new lithium battery recycling facility in China became fully operational on 11 January.
Jiangrui New Material Technology’s 150-acre site in an industrial park at Shangli near Shanghai now boasts the first of three planned fully automated production lines.
The project kicked off in November 2021 with construction starting in October 2022.
The first phase is expected to process 20 000 tonnes of recycled lithium-ion batteries annually and deliver 10 000 tonnes of battery grade lithium carbonate plus iron phosphate and sodium sulphate as by products.
The company is expecting a recovery rate of over 97% for black mass, and a recovery rate of 94% for copper and aluminium powder.
