Irish recycler McKinstry Group is building a flagship plant to recycle construction, demolition and industrial waste.

Recycling tech provider Kiverco, based in Dungannon, won the contract to design and build the EUR 19 million plant in Antrim. McKinstry Group says the new recycling hub will be the largest and most advanced site across the UK and Ireland.

McKinstry and Kiverco report that installation of the plant will start in September with final commission planned for December.

Unique design

Kiverco sales manager JP Devlin says the idea was born almost five years ago. ‘Many of the technologies integrated into this plant design have never been used before in the UK and Ireland,’ he explains. ‘In addition, we incorporated some of the digital technologies we have been advancing within our business, such as remote plant performance management and automated maintenance alerts. It really is the first of its kind.’

‘We have been working on this project for several years now and are confident that we have found the right partner to deliver a class-leading materials recycling plant fit for the future,’ comments Darren McKinstry, md of McKinstry Group. He believes its technology partner will create a robust recycling plant incorporating the latest innovations and will be ‘made to last’.

Growing success

McKinstry Group is a family-owned business that has diverted over 182 000 tonnes of waste from landfill in the last 15 years. It started as a skip hire company over 45 years ago and also runs a renewable energy division converting waste wood and recycled products into fuel.

Kiverco has gained a reputation as a leader in the construction, demolition and industrial recycling segment. After doubling its production capacity in 2023, it expanded into the Middle East and Australia.

The tech provider’s KS514 Recycling Plant is one of its signature solutions. If offers a space-saving and adaptable static waste processing system for businesses of all sizes. It is suitable for construction and demolition waste; commercial and industrial waste; dry mixed recyclables; municipal solid waste; and compost.

Key features of the plant include:

  • Small footprint – designed to maximise efficiency in a compact space
  • Seamless integration – works as a stand-alone unit or can be reconfigured as your business grows
  • Features – feeder, waste screen with flip flow deck, air density separation, magnetic separation, and a manual sorting station (of two to six bays) to recover and clean up waste commodities.
  • Easy to install with a simple plug-in connection.
