AEP’s boost to recycling US cooling devices

United States – American Electric Power (AEP) has kicked off operations at a new recycling facility in the US state of Ohio. Its partner JACO Environmental will operate the plant for recovering 95% of materials from freezers and fridges.

To mark the grand opening, the Ohio branch of AEP has started up a new programme designed to encourage more fridges and freezers to be brought in for recycling. The campaign will offer utility customers a reward of US$ 60 for their participation and free home pick-up services, and will run until the end of August.

Over 72 000 refrigerators and freezers have been recaptured since AEP launched its recycling programme back in 2009.

′This new recycling facility not only increases our ability to keep up with demand, but it demonstrates our dedication to Ohio′s energy efficiency efforts,′ says Deanna Gilliland, AEP Ohio programme manager.
