Global – ‘The world’s population simply consumes too many resources for one earth,’ says Markus Müller-Drexel, managing director of ALBA Group’s recycling subsidiary Interseroh. ‘The solution can only be to extend the lifespan of products, to recycle raw materials and to make processes more efficient. Therefore, zero-waste solutions are at the heart of our business model.’
Through various new zero-waste projects, Interseroh claims to be working towards combatting loss of resources – both with customers and inhouse, notes the company’s latest sustainability report.
One example is the Encory joint venture initiated by Interseroh and BMW, which advances the industrial preparation of used car parts, combining the expertise of ALBA and BMW. Another project, carried out with Coca-Cola, has resulted in a 99% recycling rate for all recyclable materials from production at the soft drink manufacturer’s Genshagen site near Germany’s capital city Berlin.
Interseroh has also intensified its electronics refurbishment activities. According to calculations made by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, preparation of computers and laptops for a second life saves up to 387 kg of primary resources per device.
