Scottish feedstock for Saica paper mill

Spain – Paper manufacturing group Saica is acquiring another recycling business to help secure its supply of recovered paper in the UK.

According to the family-owned Spanish conglomerate, it has taken over Scotland-based processor Stirling Fibre Group (SFG) which specialises in the trading of recovered paper and plastics sourced from local authorities and businesses. Employing around 100 people, SFG has an annual capacity of approaching 100 000 tonnes and operates from six sites in Scotland and the north of England. ‘Stirling Fibre has always been a huge supporter of the UK papermaking industry and we are delighted to be part of one of the largest recyclers of packaging in Europe,’ comments SFG’s Managing Director Forbes Connor. ‘I firmly believe that the Stirling Fibre Group is joining the right organisation and we all look forward to developing and growing Saica Natur in the UK.’ SFG’s major plastics recycling facility will also become part of Saica Natur, Saica’s waste management division. This latest acquisition will increase Natur’s turnover in the UK to Euro 80 million per annum. Over the past year, the company has acquired prominent UK paper recyclers Cutts and Futur Ltd. Annually, the combination of businesses will manage more than 400 000 tonnes of recovered paper in the UK for use at the Spanish group’s Partington paper mill in north-west England which is nearing completion.
