USA – Novelis, the world’s leading producer of rolled aluminium and largest recycler of aluminium beverage cans, has opened a new Global Research & Technology Center outside of Atlanta in the USA. The 160 000-square-foot facility will serve as the global hub of the company’s extensive research and development activities.
According to Novelis’ Chief Technical Officer Jack Clark, the new centre ‘will help drive increased collaboration with our customers, enabling us to work side by side in developing innovative, sustainable aluminium products.’
The centre will be the focal point for all R&D within Novelis – seeking out world-class solutions for the company’s can, automotive and specialty customers – as well as for all of its technical activities worldwide including engineering, manufacturing excellence and metallurgy.
Located at Kennesaw in Georgia, USA, just north of the Novelis world headquarters in Atlanta, the facility includes a variety of materials development and testing laboratories, a pilot beverage can production line, and a meeting space. Future plans include a small-scale aluminium rolling mill and heat treatment capabilities for finishing automotive aluminium sheet.
Novelis is partnering with the Georgia Institute of Technology and Southern Polytechnic State University on research opportunities, recruitment and internships for the future generation of engineers.
