CRONIMET heads for Singapore

Asia – Stainless steel scrap, ferro-alloys and primary metals specialist CRONIMET Holding has expanded its presence in Asia by taking over the Singapore-based ABCOM Group through a joint venture. The enterprise plans further exploration of the Asian scrap market under the name CRONIMET ABCOM.

The focus of CRONIMET ABCOM will be on stainless steel and specialty metals, especially high temp alloys, titanium and tool steel. With the ABCOM Group having grown into a well-established Asian player over the last 10 years, CRONIMET is confident the joint venture will be able to respond to the needs of the growing Asian market.

‘The advantages of Singapore are obvious: the location is recognised all over the world as a trading centre and is a hub for the entire South East Asian region,’ says Jürgen Pilarsky, ceo of CRONIMET. In addition, delivery times are significantly shortened owing to the ‘excellent, partly even daily connections’ from Singapore to Europe and the USA, as well as within Asia.

He adds: ‘As the by far largest stainless steel producer in the world, Asia continues to play an important role for the entire stainless steel industry. Through CRONIMET ABCOM, we want to be as close as possible to the pulse.’
