Battery industry associations around the world have joined hands to tackle major and growing battery related challenges, including recycling and reuse.
Launched in Seoul, South Korea in early March, the World Battery Forum is a platform to enhance collaboration and solidarity among battery industry associations and companies globally.
The aim is to accelerate carbon neutrality, vehicle electrification, energy storage, future mobility and other topics.
Member associations include South Korea’s KBIA, BASC and BAJ of Japan, Recharge in the EU and the United States’ PRBA.
Huge challenges ahead
Challenges facing the battery industry are said to include carbon neutrality, environmental regulations, unfair competition and supply chain security.
The WBF aims to create a favourable policy and regulatory environment for business activities, to promote a level playing field in trade and investment, and to secure a reliable battery supply chain.
During its inaugural conference in Seoul, industry players discussed the global market, policy and regulatory environments, supply chains and battery recycling-related issues.
The conference addressed essential topics such as the impact of the EU carbon footprint for batteries, promotion of battery reuse and recycling, and PFAS and hazardous substances.
Major parties present
The forum was attended by associations from South Korea, Japan, USA and EU as well as global major cell manufacturers including LG, Samsung, Panasonic and Microsoft.
The next WBF conference will be held in the US in 2025.
