Texas-based Ecobat, a major player in battery recycling, has completed the sale of its battery and polypropylene recycling business in Italy to Haiki +.
The transaction includes Ecobat’s facilities in Marcianise, Paderno Dugnano and Bologna and marks the US company’s exit from the Italian market first announced in May.
‘This sale marks yet another step forward in our strategic efforts to optimise Ecobat’s geographic footprint,’ says Tom Slabe, Ecobat president and ceo. ‘We are confident that Haiki’s commitment to innovation and sustainability will provide a solid platform for the continued success of the Italian business.’
Supply chain strategy
Haiki + ceo Giovanni Rosti says the deal continues the company’s strategy to strengthen the lead battery recycling supply chain and valorise each component.
‘Being one of the first lead producers in Italy means guaranteeing traceability, sustainability and safety in the supply of an essential raw material for numerous sectors. This is the model that Haiki+ management intends to pursue on other supply chains to which it is already strongly committed, such as that of lithium batteries. It is specialised in the processing and refining of lithium batteries, also through proprietary hydrometallurgical processes.’
