Upstate Shredding is ‘Scrap Company of the Year’

United States – Upstate Shredding-Weitsman Recycling has received the award for Scrap Company of the Year from leading trade media group American Metal Market (AMM). The annual awards took place in New York City where Upstate beat off competition from Sims Metal Management, Commercial Metals Company and Scrap Metal Services in the large company category.

‘We scored a major upset in winning the 2015 award for AMM Scrap Company of the Year in North America,’ comments Upstate’s ceo Adam Weitsman. ‘This is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our 500 employees.’ The accolade represents ‘the highlight of my professional career’, he adds.

Headquartered in Owego, New York, Upstate will process an estimated 1.05 million tonnes of ferrous and 250 million pounds of non-ferrous scrap metal in 2015. The company was named the top scrap recycling firm in the world by Platts at an international awards ceremony in London last May.

For the past six years, AMM has recognised innovation and excellence in steel and related industries with its Awards for Steel Excellence. ‘Firms that are finalists and winners demonstrate best practices to achieve outstanding results in their field,’ AMM states.
