Unlike other reporting methods, prices are not determined through a process of enquiries among a selected circle of suppliers and buyers; instead, they are taken directly from current offers and enquiries circulating on the ’Recybase’ raw materials exchange. This exchange constantly features 1000 to 1500 offers and enquiries for surplus quantities, regranulate, regrind and plastics waste. The real-time effect arises as prices are re-calculated with each visit to the price comparison system, such that new entries in the raw materials exchange are immediately taken into consideration.
The user can choose between four material groups: surplus quantities; regranulate; regrind; and bales. Corresponding minimum and maximum prices are given for each material, as well as the average price and number of prices quoted. The user can therefore immediately recognise which data have been used as the basis for the determination of the average price and upon which price range it has been based. Within the lists, it is possble to establish the exact quantity of a given material that is being subjected to offer and enquiry within Recybase at that particular moment.
Plasticker offers information on plastics and plastics recycling. A central feature is the ’Market Place’ with its raw materials exchange for plastics, which provides processors with the chance to offer surplus plastics on-line without charge. Plasticker says it is currently recording more than 60 000 visits per month.
