Machine downtime can be a costly problem within the recycling sector. Conveyor belts have to handle large volumes of often difficult materials and so run a high risk of rips and gouges, wear and tear, weathering, mechanical damage or chemical attack. Repairs have traditionally been carried out by specialist vulcanisers; not only does this entail waiting for the repairer to arrive on site, but also the repair time itself can be lengthy.
The Powerpatch fast-track system allows site maintenance personnel to carry out an instant and permanent repair themselves without the need for special tools or skills. Available from all Powerscreen distributors, Powerpatch is simple to use and likely to save up to 66% of traditional belt repair costs, it is claimed.
Whether used on a natural or synthetic rubber component, Powerpatch is said to provide a permanent repair solution for rips, holes, gouges, cracks, worn edges, exposed fabric carcasses and steel cables, as well as for fraying or stringing. Powerpatch can even be effective in rebuilding cleats, chevrons or profiles.
Powerpatch conveyor belt repair resin is available in 100g, 150g and 300g two-part ’mix in the bag’ packs to eliminate mess and in pre-mixed quantities to ensure correct proportions. Two differently-shaped spatulas are offered for ease of application. The resin can be applied in any thickness up to 25 mm, is completely cold curing and bonds natural rubber, nitrile, neoprene, SBR, polyurethane and PVC. It is non-toxic, flame retardant and has excellent tear, impact, abrasion, chemical, UV and weathering resistance. Elasticity has been measured up to 190% elongation.
