United States – More than 4500 tonnes of pesticide containers were recycled in the USA last year – a 4% increase over 2014, reports the Agricultural Container Recycling Council (ACRC).
According to the organisation, this is the sixth year in a row that pesticide container recycling has exceeded 3600 tonnes. A total of 74 000 tonnes of pesticide containers are claimed to have been recycled through the ACRC’s efforts since 1993. Collection also hit a new high for the sixth straight year.
The recycling initiative is funded by the pesticide manufacturing industry. A total of 43 states participated in the programme last year, with 28 registering recycling increases and 15 reporting decreases. California topped the list with a total of almost 900 tonnes, followed by Washington, Texas, Iowa and Mississippi.
ACRC’s target is to recycle 5000 tonnes of pesticide containers in 2016.
