New US smelter boosts Aurubis’ recycling capacity

Aurubis is investing some US$ 700 million (EUR 655 million) in the construction of a new smelter for complex recycling materials.

Aurubis reports it has commissioned a secondary smelter in Augusta, Georgia which will become operational in the second half of 2024. The company is already working on expanding the plant, which will enable it to process 180 000 tonnes per year. The site will target printed circuit boards, insulated copper cables and other products.

US first lady Jill Biden toured the company’s Augusta smelter on Wednesday.

‘Aurubis is creating long-term, secure jobs for more than 200 people here in an industry that is strategically important to US,’ ‍comments Inge Hofkens, the company’s coo of multimetal recycling.
