Europe – Waste and recycling company Van Gansewinkel of the Netherlands and UK-headquartered Shanks Group have agreed to form a new European alliance in recycling. If completed, the deal would see the creation of a strong, market-leading business in the Benelux region.
Van Gansewinkel is among the largest waste and recycling businesses in the region while Shanks is third in size. By coming together in this way, the pair will have ‘a stronger and complementary’ market share with the potential also to look for new business across borders.
The ‘reverse’ takeover by Shanks would value the privately-owned Netherlands and Belgium recycling business at an estimated Euro 440 million and significantly expand the size of the group.
Van Gansewinkel’s ceo Marc Zwaaneveld comments: ‘A combination of Van Gansewinkel and Shanks has all the ingredients to be successful. Both are today strong parties and are busy in activities and competencies that complement each other well.’
It is expected the merger will be finalised by the end of 2016.
