Major honour for Robert Voss

United Kingdom – Recycling industry stalwart Robert Voss has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the UK’s New Year’s Honours List. He has been recognised specifically for his services to British industry and for voluntary service in the UK, including the mentoring of young entrepreneurs.

Founder and ceo of Rickmansworth-based scrap and secondary metals dealer Voss International, Voss has spent almost 40 years in the recycling industry. He is president of the Brussels-based European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation (Eurometrec) and chairman of the BIR world recycling organisation’s International Trade Committee, in which role he has led the fight against protectionism and against scrap metal-related theft and fraud. He is also a past president of the British Secondary Metals Association.

Voss has told Recycling International of his ‘shock and surprise’ on receiving news of this top honour, adding: ‘Only now is it beginning to sink in.’ The honour is also a positive reflection, he says, on ‘the people I have worked with over the years, particularly those at BIR’.
