Glue no longer a problem for recyclers of food packaging says Siropack

Italian firm Siropack has developed a patented solution called ‘Respect’ that is claims will ensure that plastic packaging on food containers is 100% recyclable.

A long-standing issue with such packaging is that the glue and residue left on the edges of plastic containers after opening means they cannot be recovered for future food packaging. The ‘revolutionary’ innovation from Siropack is designed to overcome this limitation and make the material fully recyclable. The company says this will eliminate the progressive reduction in quality that occurs with each recycling cycle.

Representatives of the Canadian multinational Cascades recently visited the Siropack facility in Cesenatico to sign an agreement for the exclusive use of the patent in Canada.

‘We believe our expertise could be relevant for the new frontiers of redesign that aim at giving a new life to materials which cease to be waste and become a resource instead,’ says Siropack founders Barbara Burioli and Rocco De Lucia.
