MSS & AST has introduced an innovative technology for automated paper sorting. The FiberSort is based on opto-electronic sensors capable of identifying and removing OCC and non-paper items such as plastics and refuse from newspaper.
The FiberSort sorting module can be used in municipal recovery facilities (MRFs) that employ manual labour to clean up newspaper coming off a mechanical OCC and ONP screening system. It comes with a user-friendly touch screen, a metal detector option and two separate positive ejections (containers into one chute and OCC into another) from the main newspaper stream.
The FiberSort has the potential to reduce manual labour by 70% and produce a more consistent quality of newspaper product, it is claimed.
