EucoLight welcomes circular economy package

Europe – EucoLight, the European association for collection and recycling organisations for lamps and lighting, has welcomed the circular economy package released recently by the European Commission.

Eucolight is particularly pleased to observe that the Commission considers Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) ‘a key tool’ of an efficient circular economy. Company chairman Juan Carlos Enrique comments: ‘The recommendations include minimum operational requirements for EPR schemes.’

And he adds: ‘These cover principles such as the requirement to provide non-discriminatory services for all participants, transparency of financing by producers, and clear procedures for the procurement of waste services. We fully support these measures, which will all contribute towards a beneficial level playing field for EPR schemes.’

EucoLight will study further the proposals. ‘There are certainly some areas in which greater clarity of intent is required’, it states.
