Currently employed in a US East Coast shipbreaking operation, the GXP 2500R provides more than 3000 short tons of cutting force at 5000 psi. It is designed to fit excavators in the 200 000 lb-plus range, or 240 000 lb-plus for the rotating model. Weighing in at 53 000 lb or 45 000 lb for non-rotating models, the GXP 2500R features a 48-inch jaw depth and a jaw opening of 46 inches. The design is intended to increase productivity while reduing maintenance demands, according to the manufacturer.
All Genesis XP Series shears feature a longer cylinder stroke and lever arm which provides a 10% boost in power at the throat and piercing tip, as well as a 20% increase in shear force at the location of the new offset apex where the majority of cutting actually occurs. Central to the XP’s success is its patented bolt-on piercing tip which dramatically reduces costly build-up and welding-related downtime. The XP shear’s full piercing tip assembly is designed and manufactured from proprietary steel that has been field-proven to last two to four times longer than traditional piercing tips. Since the full tip assembly can be replaced with eight bolts, XP shear users can be back at work in as little as 30 minutes, argues Genesis.
The company has already accepted four orders for the GXP 2500R, including one for the US East Coast and one for export.
