After the digital version of the Mozart opera ’Die Entführung aus dem Serail’ (The Abduction from the Seraglio) at the 1999 Salzburg Festival, in which a Palfinger PK 11000 crane equipped with radio remote control and an orange-peel grab impressed in the role of the harem guard, Palfinger’s cranes once again created a bridge between art and machine during the 2003 Festival season. In ’La vie mécanique’ two PK 7501 Performance knuckle-boom cranes moved synchronously on a swaying platform. Through the movement of the baseplate on three vertical hydraulic supports, each movement of the cranes accumulated to form complex tori. The position of the pinnacle of the crane ‘€’ like the pinnacle of a sailing mast ‘€’ drew figures in space. From this movement principle a choreography had been developed which by means of automatic crane control dealt with the events ’Beginning’, ’Duration’ and ’Speed’.
As of September, Palfinger’s dancing cranes will go on a European tour. All European Palfinger dealers will have the opportunity to book the dancing cranes free of charge for anniversary events, trade fair appearances, open days and similar occasions.
