The European Electronics Recyclers Association (EERA) has appointed Vanya Veras as its new secretary general. She succeeds Julie-Ann Adams, who has led the organisation for more than four years.

Veras brings over 30 years of experience in European affairs, environmental policy and waste management and has worked across EU institutions, industry and local authorities.

Her appointment comes at an important time for the sector, says EERA president Kurt Kyck, ‘as we continue to strengthen recognition of professional WEEE treatment operators and their role in Europe’s circular economy’.

From waste to Coca-Cola

Veras began her career in Brussels in 1995 and has built a reputation as an ‘effective negotiator and trusted discussion partner across institutions, industry and public authorities’.

In earlier roles, she developed expertise in waste management policy and established Municipal Waste Europe as a recognised voice in the sector.

She has worked in both the private and public sectors. As environmental affairs manager at Coca-Cola Hellenic in Greece, she focused on energy, packaging and resource management challenges. She also served as special adviser on waste to the mayor of Piraeus, supporting improvements in local waste systems, investment planning and procurement.

Ready to serve

‘I am pleased to join EERA at a time of renewal of the WEEE Directive and of continued focus on making the circular economy a reality in Europe, which ties in the need for investment to ensure continued development for the sector,’ says Veras. ‘Electronics recycling plays a key role in supporting resource efficiency and strategic autonomy in the supply of secondary raw materials to European industry. I look forward to working with members and stakeholders to further strengthen the sector’s contribution.’
