Swiss packaging firm Amcor is taking over US packaging company Berry Global in an all-stock deal worth US$ 8.4 billion (EUR 8 billion).
The acquisition is planned to be completed in mid-2025. This business deal will allow the two packaging leaders to strengthen their market position in ‘high growth, high value categories’. These include health care, protein, pet food, liquids, beauty and personal care, and food service.
Together, the businesses will have an annual revenue of approximately US$ 24 billion. Around half of the total revenue comes from North America, with 30% in Western Europe and 20% in emerging markets including Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The flexibles segment will account for about 60% of combined revenues, and caps and closures will make up the remainder.
Once the ink is dry, the packaging powerhouse will operate no less than 400 production facilities worldwide.
Amcor’s recyclable products include PVC- and aluminum-free blister packaging made of HDPE and PE film. Amcor’s food-grade AmFiniti contains 80% recycled content.
Meanwhile, Berry produces fully recyclable plastic trigger pump sprayers. Its Berry Total container system contains 100% PCR.
