Missouri-based Scrap Management Industries (SMI) has acquired Allmetal Recycling in a move to strengthen its presence and processing capacity in the US Midwest.
Allmetal will continue to operate under its existing name in a deal which adds the company’s network of 10 locations in Kansas to the SMI portfolio. SMI, which was founded in 1973, now operates 19 yards across Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, supported by five automobile shredders, including two mega shredders.
Local recycling
Founded in 2009, Allmetal Recycling was owned by cousins Clint and Kolby Cornejo, who will remain with the company in leadership roles and continue to be actively involved in daily operations.
‘We have always believed that scrap metal recycling is a local business,’ says Clint Cornejo. ‘SMI shares that belief. They are family owned, they understand the value of local teams, and are committed to investing in the people and facilities that make this business work.’
Shared culture
Kolby believes the transaction creates new opportunities for employees while preserving Allmetal’s customer-focused approach. ‘Joining the SMI family allows us to keep doing what we do best for our customers and communities, while growing as part of a larger organisation.’
SMI ceo Jerrit Burgess thinks the acquisition reflects a shared culture and long-term vision. ‘Allmetal is exactly the kind of company we want to grow with,’ he says. ‘Both companies are family built and locally led. Allmetal has done an outstanding job serving Kansas communities and its industrial partners.’
