BIR keynote to focus on Middle East opportunity

United Arab Emirates – Palestinian-Jordanian author and columnist Rami Khouri will give a keynote presentation at the BIR world recycling organisation’s convention in Dubai on ‘Understanding the Middle East and the Arab World: Strengths, Weaknesses and Opportunities.’

The BIR gathering takes place on 18-20 May and represents a return to Dubai for Khouri, the former director of the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. He spoke on economic opportunities in the Middle East the last time the BIR Convention was held in Dubai in 2009.

Khouri has bachelor and master degrees in political science and mass communications from the US Syracuse University. He was chief editor of the Jordan Times for seven years, is now editor at large for the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, and regularly comments on Middle East issues in the international media. He was awarded the Pax Christi International Peace Prize for 2006.

‘In light of the current turmoil in the Islamic world, his deep knowledge and understanding of the Middle East will provide a fine-tuned analysis of the complexities of a region in the process of redefining itself,’ says BIR.
