HSM releases efficient baling press to meet the challenges of modern deposit-return systems

With the introduction of mandatory deposit-return systems in more and more EU member states, retail trade is facing new logistical challenges.

Large quantities of returned PET bottles and aluminium cans have to be efficiently collected, invalidated, compressed and transported. HSM GmbH + Co. KG has the VK 4812 P Outdoor, a powerful solution which was developed specifically to meet these challenges.

This baling press, designed particularly for use outside, was developed to meet the challenges faced by large retail chains. Thanks to its compact cascade back-end with two press rams and a shortened press channel, the machine can easily be integrated into loading ramps.

A weather-proof canopy protects core components such as loading funnel, hydraulic unit and channel cylinder. The stainless steel key transfer system ensures additional security in outside areas.

Efficient pressing, directly at the ramp

A particular characteristic of the VK 4812 P Outdoor is the possibility of loading the material inside the building while the pressing procedure is carried out completely outside.

HSM says it reduces unpleasant odours in the warehouse, saves valuable space and makes additional transportation journeys superfluous. This presents a real alternative to stationary presses with extension boxes or to press containers.

Impressive technology

The VK 4812 P is ideal for pressing PET bottles and aluminium cans. It has a large filling opening and relies on wear resistant steel XAR500 in areas which are subject to high wear-and-tear. Six brake chocks in the press channel increase the material friction and therefore the bale density. The machine is available in two motor variants (15 kW and 22 kW).

In the most powerful version, it reaches a pressing performance of up to 2.8 tonnes of PET per hour – with a bale weight of between 280-320 kg. The automatic tying with strong wire (Ø 3,4–3,8 mm) ensures a high degree of bale stability – even when the bales are stored for a long time or are being transported.
