Vietnam and Russia team up for tyre recycling

Global – Sagama Vietnam, a joint venture between Vietnam’€™s Long Long Chemical and Russian firm Tolyatti, started up its first tyre recycling production line on March 29 in Vinh Phuc province.

The plant is converting post-consumer tyres into rubber flooring for gymnasiums and sporting venues using ‘eco-friendly’ recycling technology. Sagama Vietnam plans to open a second such facility in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of this year.

Vietnam generates approximately 16 million tonnes of waste each year, 80% of which is municipal waste. Only 10% of the country’s waste rubber is recycled, according to the Russian trade mission in Vietnam, although ‘dramatic increases’ are anticipated in the coming years.
