Global – Sagama Vietnam, a joint venture between Vietnam’s Long Long Chemical and Russian firm Tolyatti, started up its first tyre recycling production line on March 29 in Vinh Phuc province.
The plant is converting post-consumer tyres into rubber flooring for gymnasiums and sporting venues using ‘eco-friendly’ recycling technology. Sagama Vietnam plans to open a second such facility in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of this year.
Vietnam generates approximately 16 million tonnes of waste each year, 80% of which is municipal waste. Only 10% of the country’s waste rubber is recycled, according to the Russian trade mission in Vietnam, although ‘dramatic increases’ are anticipated in the coming years.
