Denmark’s HJHansen Recycling Group is celebrating its first deep-sea departure from the company’s new facility in Aalborg in the north of the country.
Developed at the Port of Aalborg’s new quay, the 15 600 m2 site is seen as a significant gain for the North Jutland scrap suppliers and the development of the port area.
‘With direct access to the quay, we now have a stronger setup for handling larger vessels and consolidating materials from Northern Jutland and the rest of Scandinavia before they continue their journey into recycling,’ says HJHansen ceo Mogens Bach Christensen.
30 000 tonnes
The expansion enables the company to ship large deep-sea cargoes of up to 30 000 tonnes. It is the metal recycler’s third deep-sea terminal in Denmark, complementing the two existing ones from which they send up to 50 000 tonnes of ferrous scrap, mostly to smelters and steel mills in Türkiye.
HJHansen has had a port facility at Aalborg since 1996.
