Argentina reveals ferrous scrap export ban

Argentina – Having previously introduced a ban in June 2010, the government of Argentina has once again put a stop to overseas shipments of ferrous scrap, according to a report in Metal Bulletin.

The prohibition, which applies to various forms of iron and steel scrap as well as stainless steel, came into effect on August 28 and is scheduled to remain in place for 360 days.

An announcement by the industry ministry in the country’€™s official gazette confirms the measure is a response to the ferrous scrap shortage in the local market which, it says, has proved to be an obstacle to the development of the domestic steel sector.
