Mitsubishi has acquired a stake in DEScycle, a London-based pioneer in clean tech recycling.
DEScycle’s proprietary process recovers metals from end-of-life electronics at room temperature and standard pressure. It uses deep eutectic solvents (DES), a recyclable class of liquid salts enabling low-carbon, low-impact operations.
Pilot project
The investment will help fund a UK pilot plant, which is now under development. A 5 000-tonne commercial facility is scheduled to launch in 2028, with global expansion to follow.
North America and Japan are listed as key target markets for future roll-out.
E-scrap wave
The new partners aim to cut energy use and emissions compared to traditional smelting. Mitsubishi and DEScycle say their process delivers industry-leading performance, cost-efficiency and transparency.
They underline that finding a sustainable route for critical metal recovery is ever more important as global demand for electronics continues to rise. This trend positions e-scrap recyclers as key players in the circular economy.
