Van Dalen launches new UK shredder

The Netherlands – Netherlands-based scrap metal processor Van Dalen Metals Recycling and Trading has officially unveiled its newest ferrous and non-ferrous shredder facility at its UK headquarters in Sheffield, which entailed an investment of Euro 7.2 million (US$ 9.56 million). The ceremony was attended by the UK’s Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Van Dalen has been active in the UK for 12 years and sees this capacity expansion as an opportunity to boost its domestic and export capabilities. Operating from six sites in the UK and several in both the Netherlands and Belgium, the Dutch recycler’s annual production averages 1.5 million tonnes. The company estimates that over 35% of all scrap metals processed by the UK are handled at its headquarters.

Mr Clegg stated: ‘Van Dalen is a real Sheffield success story. This investment is great news for Sheffield’s economy and the wider region.’ Companies like this will be at the heart of economic recovery, he added.
