Sustainable scoop: ‘green cred’ recycled bikes

United States – US bike brand ReCycle has created three different versions of what are being heralded as ‘€˜the world’€™s first 100% recycled aluminium bikes’€™ and as ‘€˜the greenest transportation option available anywhere’€™.

The series includes an all-terrain bicycle, a cruiser and a fixed/single-speed bike – all of which are ‘€˜the ultimate expression of green cred’€™, states the California-based company’€™s founder Bryce Edmonds.

Inspiration was drawn from a reusable grocery bag with the ‘€˜recycled ingredients’€™ printed on it. ReCycle explains: ‘€˜It read: aluminum, rubber, plastic and we thought ‘€œHey, those are bike parts!’€ And a few years later, our prototypes are alive, well and rolling down the streets of Los Angeles.’€™

To further its efforts, the team behind ReCycle is hoping to collect US$ 105 000 via the popular fund-raising platform Kickstarter.
