Sorting and separation technology specialist Steinert has expanded its test and research centre for near-infrared (NIR) solutions in Zittau in southern Germany.
Steinert UniSort is a subsidiary specialising in NIR sensor sorting systems. It has recently moved into significantly bigger premises, completing the latest stage of its expansion. The company says the investment underlines a ‘long-term commitment to the site, creating the ideal basis for future growth’.
The new building covers 9 000 m2, a four-fold increase in area, but takes up just 25% of a recently acquired six-hectare plot. By planning for the future, the company is opening further scope for expansion, says Steinert.
Real-life conditions
Expanded capacities optimise production and provide more space for development, testing and administration, it adds. In particular, the test centre allows customers to assess the materials they want to sort ‘under real-life conditions and to verify feasibility’. What’s more, it offers Steinert continuing opportunities to refine its sorting technology.
Driver of innovation
Following its test and development centre near Köln, this is the second-largest test and research hub under the wings of the Steinert Group. ‘We are boosting a key technological area of the group and further strengthening our position as a driver of innovation in the global recycling industry,’ it says.
