In memoriam: Jake Farber

Former Bureau of International Recycling President Jake Farber has passed away the day before yesterday at the age of 94. 

Farber was a highly respected figure in the international recycling arena. He joined the family recycling firm Alpert & Alpert in the 50s. His first experience in the scrap metal trade association was in 1964 when he became chairman of the Western Division of the National Association of Recycling Industries. 

‘As BIR President from 1987 to 1991 he was instrumental in further developing our international organisation based on his vision and expertise,’ BIR comments.

Farber also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI). He is regarded as a true veteran of the recycling sector known for his passionate commitment and leadership within ISRI and its predecessor organisation NARI, of which he was president from 1978 to 1980.
