If allowed into a scrap yard, such material can cause severe injury to employees and lead to decontamination and disposal costs running into millions of dollars. Radiation detectors offer a safeguard but are not 100% effective, and so the training video shows operators how to improve their odds of spotting radioactive material before it does any harm.
The video provides employees with a basic understanding of: radiation and radioactivity; words, symbols and colours pertaining to radioactive devices; origins and uses of radioactive devices; shapes, sizes and configurations of radioactive devices.
The training video uses animation, numerous photographs and easy-to-understand narration in English to teach employees how to spot radioactive material.
