World crude steel production in July was 152.8 million tonnes (Mt), 4.7% down on the same month in 2023.

The data is supplied by the World Steel Association and comes from the 71 countries which account for 98% of global output.

China down, India up

China produced 82.9 Mt in July 2024, down 9.0% on July 2023 while India’s output was 12.3 Mt, up 6.8%.

Of the others in the top 10, Japan produced 7.1 Mt (-3.8%); the United States 6.9 Mt (+2.1%); Russia (estimate) 6.3 Mt (-3.1%) and South Korea 5.5 Mt (-3.4%). Meanwhile, Germany is 3.1 Mt (+ 4.8%); Türkiye 3.1 Mt (+4.0%); Brazil 3.1 Mt (+11.6%);  and Iran 1.8 Mt (-18.7%).
