As demand grows for ever-stronger material handlers, scrap shear manufacturers do their best to keep pace. At the IFAT trade show in Munich, Rotar will unveil its latest.
Rotar’s X-Series introduces a new generation of cutting performance, durability and machine integration for scrap recyclers, says the company’s commercial director, Louis Broekhuizen. ‘X stands for X-treme. Everything is stronger once again.’
Larger cylinders have been incorporated and the maximum operating pressure is up from 350 bar to 380 bar. ‘As a result, cutting forces have significantly increased within the same machine class,’ Broekhuizen explains. ‘Material handlers are also delivering increasingly higher pressures, up to 380 bar, so with this series we are completely up to date again.’
Durable, more grip
In addition, the X-Series has been equipped with a new main shaft, offering improved jaw alignment and better protection against external impact. The rotator has been optimised, providing higher torque and better grip. The centre of gravity of the shear has also been improved, resulting in greater stability for the carrier machine.
‘The entire jaw configuration has been fine-tuned so that maximum force is available at the right moment in the stroke, when the shear requires the most power.’
RSS 70 X and RSS 75 X
The two new models RSS 70 X and RSS 75X are identical shears but with different rotator configurations: one designed for carriers up to 45 tonne, the other from 40 tonnes and above. The 75 X has a heavier slewing ring and bigger hydraulic capacity since machines above 40 tonnes can deliver more hydraulic flow and breakout force.
‘With this division, we can equip material handlers at scrap yards with the ideal shear, which is usually mounted on the boom (mono-boom) rather than on the stick,’ adds Broekhuizen. ‘This allows us to equip material handlers from 35 tonnes up to 56 tonnes cutting force with the strongest shear in this class available on the market.’
The RSS 75 X will be presented to the public for the first time at IFAT on 4-7 May in Munich, Germany.
