The Global Recycling Foundation has opened submissions for its Recycling Heroes 2026 video competition. It is an important component of Global Recycling Day, which is celebrated annually on 18 March.

The competition recognises outstanding recycling initiatives worldwide, showcasing their creativity, impact and contribution to a more circular economy.

Winners will be selected in two categories: 15 entries from established initiatives with at least two years of impact, and five start-ups demonstrating innovative approaches.

Growing global movement

The competition has run for seven years, attracting original entries from across the globe, notes the initiative’s founder Ranjit Baxi.

‘Recycling is finally being recognised as a vital part of tackling climate change and preserving precious mineral resources,’ Baxi says. ‘Modern technology depends on these materials, from wind turbines to smartphones. Every effort to reuse and recycle strengthens both our environment and economy.’

How to enter

Entrants should submit a 90–120 second video explaining their recycling initiative. Videos must cover when the project started, the activities undertaken, and the impact on local communities, schools, businesses or villages. Submissions will be judged on creativity, originality and ecosystem protection.

Each of the 20 winners will receive EUR 500 and be featured in a global news release, highlighting their work to an international audience.

In addition, the top three will host an Instagram Live with Baxi to share their experiences and inspire wider adoption of circular economy practices.

Deadline and submission

The closing date for entries is Friday 7 March 2025. Videos, along with project descriptions and contact details, should be emailed to [email protected]

The competition offers a platform for individuals, schools, businesses and start-ups to showcase their contributions to recycling and sustainability. It also provides an opportunity to connect with a global audience and influence the future of the circular economy.

Baxi adds that Global Recycling Day 2026 promises ‘to highlight the creativity, dedication and innovation of the world’s Recycling Heroes’. ‘Be part of the movement and submit your entry to show how you are making a difference.’
