LG to help take e-Stewards worldwide

USA/Korea – Major brand LG Electronics has joined the Basel Action Network (BAN), the US non-governmental organisation that monitors the global trade of discarded electronics.

The Korean manufacturer and BAN now plan to work together to expand the scope of ‘e-Stewards Enterprise’ – a programme designed to encourage the responsible disposal of electronic goods – beyond North America and the UK. As part of their agreement, LG and BAN hope to develop and participate in the ‘Global e-Stewards Enterprise’ programme, enabling companies to responsibly recycle electronic e-waste worldwide.

‘In the 21st century, multi-national companies like LG must step up and take a greater role in working to protect the environment,’ says Jong-min Shin, Vice President of LG’s Eco Strategy Team. ‘This commitment is not just about recycling; it is about making changes to the entire production process, right from the factory floor all the way to the final disposal of the product.’ BAN is a well-known non-governmental organisation in North America dealing with the verification of waste disposal companies, developing programmes for toxin management and the surveillance of hazardous articles.

The aim of the agreement between LG and BAN is to enhance protection of the environment by combining LG’s knowledge of electronics development processes with BAN’s stewardship capabilities.
