The cast grapple link is quickly proving itself to be a better solution to the common fabricated alternative it replaces, according to the company.
The cast links, which are manufactured in one piece, are substantially stronger and less likely to fail during use than standard fabricated grapple links thanks to Columbia Steel’s advanced alloys and improved design, contends the company.
Columbia Steel’€™s product engineers worked with customers in designing the grapple link. Since the traditional fabricated part was over-stressed and was often the subject of premature breakage, Columbia Steel used solid modelling and finite element analysis (FEA) to create a new cast version. The grapple link is cast out of a martensitic steel alloy developed by Columbia Steel which provides a combination of high strength and toughness.
Columbia Steel Casting Co. manufactures a full range of wear parts for waste, scrap and car shredders.
