Danieli acquires Akros Henschel

Italy – Italian steel and engineering company Danieli & C Officine Meccaniche SpA has added to its recycling portfolio with the acquisition of Akros Henschel SAS, the global leader in hydraulic scrap shears, vertical grinders and similar scrap equipment.

The deal means Danieli will take full control of primary manufacturing facilities at Chambéry in France and Kassel in Germany. Meanwhile, both businesses will operate alongside existing Danieli facilities in Italy, Thailand, China and India. The company’€™s Executive Vice President Emanuele Brusini confirms that the enterprise has been renamed Danieli Henschel.

‘€˜The Akros Henschel product line and business units will be merged into the Danieli Centro Recycling division,’€™ Mr Brusini elaborates. He hopes that the turn-key projects delivered over the past year will benefit further from the latest technology in terms of hydraulic scrap shears and balers. In particular, he sees a ‘€˜tremendous opportunity for further vertical integration of scrap preparation, handling and continuous charging processes within electric arc furnace (EAF) melt shops’€™.

The former Managing Director of Akros Henschel, Daniel Damart, will adopt a leading role within the senior management team, having been assigned to develop scrap processing markets outside of steelmaking. According to him, the combination of Henschel’€™s equipment and Danieli’€™s existing shredder range ‘€˜enables the new group to meet the needs of both the smallest and largest scrap processing companies of the world’€™.
