Robert (Bob) Melenick, president of separation and lifting magnet technology provider SGM Magnetics has retired following a 30-year career with the company. He will be succeeded by Ernesto Tirado, SGM announced at the ReMA 2026 convention in Las Vegas.

Melenick founded SGM’s North American operations and played a key role in building the company’s reputation for technical excellence, professionalism, and customer commitment across the metal recycling and steel industries.

‘Bob did not simply lead this company, he helped build it,’ says SGM Group president Didier Haegelsteen. ‘His dedication, industry knowledge and long-standing commitment have been fundamental to our success in North America.’

Toward further growth

Ernesto Tirado has been appointed to lead SGM Magnetics into its next phase of growth. With a strong background spanning engineering, commercial execution and project delivery, he brings a practical and results-oriented approach, along with a deep understanding of the company and its markets. ‘Ernesto will continue to build on SGM’s strong foundation while supporting innovation and driving performance across the organisation. This transition also supports SGM’s continued development in advanced recycling technologies and high-performance system solutions.’

Greater value

Tirado says he is honoured to take on this role and lead SGM into its next chapter. ‘We will continue to build on the values, professionalism and customer focus that have defined SGM over the years, while focusing on execution, performance and delivering even greater value to our customers,’ he says.
