With the launch of a Nordic working group, the metal recyclers’ association of Sweden, Svenska Järn, and the German metal traders and recyclers body VDM intend to work more closely together on areas of joint interest.

‘By deepening our cooperation and establishing structured dialogue, we are laying the foundation for a long-term partnership that strengthens the recycling industry across Europe,’ says VDM president Murat Bayram.

‘It is an important step forward and gives us a stronger, more unified voice – something that is urgently needed in today’s European policy landscape,’ adds Elinor Feuer, president of Svenska Järn. ‘A structured cooperation will help ensure that the industry speaks with a stronger, more unified voice at both the Nordic and European levels.’

Protectionism a major hurdle

Through the cooperation, Svenska Järn and VDM aim to jointly promote: the continuous improvement and competitiveness of the recycling industry; environmental and climate protection, alongside long-term sustainability; and free and fair global trade. ‘Protectionism and undue government intervention in the market hinder innovation and efficiency and are therefore firmly rejected,’ says Feuer.

The newly established Nordic working group will meet regularly to exchange information, align perspectives and contribute to coordinated positions.
