DuPont launches new series of compatibilisers

United States – DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers has put a new series of compatibilisers on the market. Named Entira EP, these can be used to recycle ‘difficult-to-separate’ mixtures of inherently incompatible polymers.

The first grades to become available are ethylene-copolymers, optimised for mixed waste streams of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). The new PE-PP-specific Entira EP formulations exhibit high compatibility – and hence adhesion – to either one or to both polyolefins. According to the company, ‘even at low concentrations of around 4%, these new compatibilisers are highly efficient, promoting a firm bond between matrix and dispersed material’.

DuPont is currently developing further formulations of compatibilisers for other mixed materials. The company’s technical development leader Loic Rolland claims Entira EP compatibilisers provide ‘new opportunities for generating added value by recycling used plastics, and help reduce the need for landfilling or incineration’.
