The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced its shortlist for the 15th Steelie Awards.

The awards recognise member companies for their contribution to the steel industry over the previous year in a series of categories impacting the industry. These include recognition of low-carbon steel production and wider sustainability.

Shortlist highlights

Excellence in low-carbon steel production:

  • ArcelorMittal Steelanol: Converting steel mill gas to ethanol
  • China Baowu Steel Group:HyCrof commercial demonstration project
  • Citic Pacific Special Steel Group: Hydrogen-full oxygen-intelligent combustion
  • JSW Steel: Transition to low-emission steel production through a multi-pronged approach and transparent disclosure
  • Posco Holdings: Low-emissions feedstock blend and digital twin to support transition to net-zero steelmaking
  • Shougang Group: Comprehensive recycling of ‘combustion-heat-electricity-water-salt’

Excellence in sustainability:

  • Aceros AZA: AZA Contigo – base recyclers
  • Gerdau: ESG in the supply chain
  • HBIS Group: Carbon2Rock – negative carbon building materials project
  • Nucor: Nucor Brandenburg Leed v4 BD+C Silver Certified
  • Posco Holdings: Odour control consulting programme for supply chain partners
  • Tenaris: first Tenaris wind farm in Argentina

The winners will be announced on 14 October.
