Expert input to BIR Plastics Committee meeting

United States – A wealth of international experience and expertise will be available to the BIR world recycling organisation’s Plastics Committee meeting taking place in the US city of Miami on June 4.

The debate will cover challenges and opportunities in plastics recycling worldwide, with a specific focus on the US market. In addition, an assessment of current and future market trends will include plastics from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and from end-of-life-vehicles.

Guest presentations will be delivered by: Maite Quinn, who is responsible for business development and marketing of plastics, paper and glass for the Sims Metal Management division Sims Municipal Recycling; Tamsin Ettefagh, vice president of sales and purchasing at Envision Plastics which is the second-largest HDPE recycling company in North America; and James Glauser, a senior consultant at Colorado-based global information company IHS who has been involved in the Chemical Economics Handbook Programme.

A subsequent panel discussion will feature: Steve Alexander, executive director of the US Association of Postconsumer Plastics Recyclers; Bill Carteaux, president of SPE, the US plastics industry trade association; Dawn Gaines, sales manager at Rock-Tenn, one of North America′s leading producers of corrugated and consumer packaging and recycling solutions; Hamilton Wen, director of the plastics division of US-based Newport CH International, LLC, an international trading company and large recycled material exporter; and Dr Steve Wong, managing director of Fukutomi Company Limited of Hong Kong which has plastics scrap at its core.
