Rosenbauer aids recyclers in dousing fire risk

Germany – Recyclers are encountering ‘a lot of trouble’ in getting good insurance for their operations as a result of recent fires at various sites worldwide, fire protection specialist Rosenbauer noted at this week’€™s Recycling Technik trade show in the German city of Dortmund. German companies were said to be suffering more than most because of the country’s strict legislation and consumer awareness, explained its marketing specialist Julia Amstler.

Media reports have reinforced the widely-held perception of recycling as a ‘risky business’, it was suggested. In today’s market, therefore, it was crucial for recyclers to ‘protect themselves and prevent fires by taking proper precautions’, according to Amstler. One way to treat flames ‘faster than fire’ – as the company slogan puts it – is to install Rosenbauer’s sensor-driven in-door fire extinguishing system and mounted or portable pumps.

The sensor can move with great fluidity and turn 360 degrees, carefully scanning an entire hall inch by inch, while the water or foam pumps located alongside are able to tackle the flames ‘before they get out of control’, it is claimed. Even smouldering material inside a pile of scrap can be easily dealt with, Amstler contended.

Rosenbauer is currently working on a design concept whereby the pump is mounted directly below the sensor to ensure ‘maximum accuracy’.
