Bartin Recycling to join Derichebourg’s ranks

France – Recycling and environmental services major Derichebourg is set to acquire Veolia subsidiary Bartin Recycling subject to the approval of the French competition authorities.

Bartin Recycling collects and recycles some 450 000 tonnes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals per annum, operating around 20 sites in France. Veolia’s end-of-life material dismantling and deconstruction business – involving aircraft, ships, rail rolling stock and industrial facilities – will not be affected by the sale.

Pascal Tissot, president of Bartin Recycling, states: ‘I am delighted to have been able to finalise Bartin Recycling’s acquisition by a major metals recycling business like Derichebourg. It brings the assurance of a solid industrial project and real growth prospects for its subsidiary, and the protection of jobs that Veolia was keen to ensure for its 300 employees.’

With revenues of Euro 2.4 billion reported for 2015, Derichebourg is active in 14 countries on three continents and employs around 33 000 people in total. Abderaman El Aoufir, Derichebourg’s deputy chief executive officer, says the Bartin Recycling acquisition is part of ‘a long-term industrial strategy’, adding that it will enable the group to ‘expand its regional coverage in France and ensure supply to its recycling units with volume from these recently-acquired sites’.

He also notes: ‘The transaction completed with Veolia allows for the integration of external skills that will enhance our industrial and commercial processes.’
