United States – The Recycling Partnership in the USA, a national non-profit organisation focused on improving kerbside residential recycling, has announced Target Corporation as its first retail company member. ‘
‘With the addition of Target, members of The Recycling Partnership now represent the entire recycling system for consumer packaging, including manufacturers, brands, retailers and the recycling industry,’ it is noted.
Minneapolis-based Target has upwards of 1900 stores across the USA and Canada, contributing more than US$ 4 million of its profits every week to community grants and programmes. ‘Target brings specific expertise in meeting the needs of the many guests to their stores, and through our work together that insight will translate into better recycling programmes for more consumers across the country,’ observes Keefe Harrison, executive director of The Recycling Partnership.
Using private funding from companies like Target, The Recycling Partnership brings grants, tools and specialised marketing and operations expertise to help recycling programmes that are underperforming owing to budget constraints or other barriers.
Since the start of 2015, The Recycling Partnership has ‘helped catalyse US$ 21 million of new recycling infrastructure through grants and on-the-ground technical support, positively impacting more than two million households’, it states.
