Tomra scores with sensor-based sorting equipment

United Kingdom – Sweeep Kuusakoski, a leading e-scrap collection and recycling firm in the UK, has selected sensor-based sorting equipment supplied by Tomra Sorting to upgrade and separate metallic fractions at its plant in Kent.

The TITECH finder and TITECH combisense have replaced manual sorting, boosting the capacity of the plant to 10 tonnes per hour. 

The TITECH finder recovers copper wire, alloys and stainless steel from shredder processes, detecting particles as small as 1-2 mm. The TITECH combisense then uses a high-resolution colour camera and metal sensor to sort copper and circuit boards from aluminium. Sorting similar-sized particles, the TITECH combisense is said to yield ′extremely′ high-purity metal fractions.
